01 / YOUR CITY, AT A GLANCE

Start with a place on the map.

Compare five student residences, find your groceries, and see how everything connects to AIWA.

Select a pin or a place. Use + / − to zoom.Internet needed for the base map

Independent housing options, not a list of AIWA-owned dorms. Ask the operator whether AIWA students are eligible, and confirm availability, guarantor requirements and the full move-in cost. Pins show operator-published locations; confirm the entrance before travelling.

Before you book: 6 questions to ask

Does the property accept students at my school?

What is the total monthly fee, beyond advertised rent?

Are deposits, entrance fees and cleaning charged separately?

Is a Japanese guarantor or guarantee company required?

Can I cook? Are meals optional and suitable for my diet?

What are the cancellation rules and commute costs?

02 / EAT WELL, SPEND THOUGHTFULLY

Rice, dal, and a new routine.

Cooking familiar meals can make a new city feel like home. Start with rice, lentils, vegetables and spices; compare unit prices and share larger packs with flatmates.

Gyomu Super · Hakozaki Station

Bulk staples, frozen ingredients and everyday groceries. Compare shelf prices—this is a shopping option, not a cheapest-price guarantee.

If you choose halal food

Check each product’s certification and ingredients, including sauces, gelatin and cooking alcohol. A supermarket or dorm meal plan is not automatically halal. Ask about preparation too.

03 / YOUR JOURNEY TO CLASS

Your first trip to AIWA, made simpler.

Practise the route before your first class. Keep the school’s Japanese name and address saved on your phone.

A SOFTER LANDING

One step at a time. Your first two weeks.

Start with housing and address registration. Then arrange a suitable phone plan and bank account—requirements can depend on one another.

Ticks stay in this browser only. No documents or personal details are collected.

04 / THE PRACTICAL THINGS

Connected, prepared, and ready.

Use these as a starting checklist, then follow the provider’s current requirements. Ask school staff if a form is unclear.

STAY CONNECTED

A phone plan that fits you.

  1. Check your phone is unlocked and supports the SIM or eSIM and network bands.
  2. Choose voice + data if you need a Japanese number for calls or SMS. A travel data eSIM may not include one.
  3. Prepare the ID, registered address and payment method your chosen provider asks for. Check activation, monthly and cancellation fees.
No Japanese bank account yet?

GTN lists convenience-store payment options on eligible plans. Compare the latest terms before applying; this guide has no affiliate relationship.

MANAGE YOUR MONEY

Open your first bank account.

  1. Register your address first. Prepare your residence card with your current address and your student ID or enrolment certificate.
  2. Ask Japan Post Bank or your chosen bank about its application channel and any extra documents, contact number or seal it requires.
  3. Use your own legal name consistently. Applications are reviewed; opening an account and all services are not guaranteed immediately.
Check your period of stay

Japan Post Bank asks you to renew first if your permitted stay expires within three months of applying. Ask the bank which services are available to a newly arrived student.

MAKE A PLAN THAT IS YOURS

Know where your yen will go.

Adjust this example to your real rent and routine. All figures are monthly Japanese yen; they are planning inputs, not advertised prices or an official cost estimate.

Include management and meal fees in rent when appropriate; avoid counting meals twice. Keep a separate arrival fund for deposits, entrance fees, furniture and emergencies.

LITTLE THINGS THAT MAKE A DIFFERENCE

Build a life beyond the classroom.

01

Find your community

Fukuoka Masjid is in Hakozaki. Check visitor arrangements directly. Student events and language exchanges can also help you meet people from Bangladesh, Japan and beyond.

02

Get the everyday basics right

Ask your building about rubbish collection, quiet hours and bicycle parking. Save your nearest evacuation location and keep water, a power bank and essential supplies ready.

03

Ask before taking a job

Check permission and conditions for part-time work with AIWA and the Immigration Services Agency before you start. Your study timetable and attendance come first. Do not budget on unconfirmed future wages.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO FIGURE IT OUT ALONE

A question is a good first step.
